My GTI LE 717 was leaking water into the hull. I replaced a couple of parts before putting it on a hose and finding it was leaking out of a crack in the cylinder. I wasn't aware at the time that I'm not supposed to leave the hose running without the machine running so I filled the whole thing with water. Oops. :ambivalent: It started coming out of the intake manifold. I got all the water out of the cylinder at the time and ran it a little but wasn't able to do anything about the bottom end. I got it home now (about a month later) and took the top end apart and the crankcase has about an inch of water/oil in it. Seams like there was a lot of oil in there which I'm thinking might have saved me. So with that being said, do y'all think there's any possibility of it being fine if I dry it all up and put it back together? Or should I not waste any more money on it. (I'll have to fix the one cracked cylinder). TIA

Absolutely not. Your crankshaft is trashed.
Once the bearings get a little rust on them they will eat themselves up like sand paper and blow out the cases. Unfortunately you are going to need a full rebuild.
