Morning everyone. So I've been tackling this GTX for a friend. I posted some of the issues in another thread, but it got tied up in focusing on the leaking oil filter. http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?65541-Oil-Filter-Cap-O-ring-Blows-Out I figured that out. Some bonehead (might have been me  ) put the oil filter cap orings in backwards.

So now, ZERO oil leaks, oil level is good. But running it even on the trailer with a hose hooked up, the oil warning comes on and puts it into limp mode. No codes are given from ECM. I put an oil pressure tester on it at the test port below the oil filter and I'm getting 70PSI at idle. It creeps up to 75PSI-ish when I slowly rev up to and passed 3000RPM then gives me the oil warning light and cuts to limp mode (rpm drop and limited). I shut the water off, shut the motor down, pull the key and it starts all over again next time I fire it up. I tried this with the oil filter installed and uninstalled with no difference in pressure. Same with dipstick seated and unseated.

FYI: We just rebuilt the entire pump shortly before all this nonsense. The skis only got an hour in it maybe since. New wear ring, bearings, carbon seal, etc. so the driveshaft WAS out of the ski. Have NO idea how that would affect it but I'm covering my bases.

There is nothing in the service manual troubleshooting for high oil pressure. Only low oil pressure. I found that odd. But that leads me here anyway. ANY suggestions? Thoughts?

Yeah...odd...ain't heard much of high pressure being a prob.

Off chance...you unhook the battery then reconnect and see what codes show?

Also...beware running that ski for more than a coupla min on the hose. Whole lotta bad things happen when you do that.

Oil will shoot all over the place?....heh

Reason I ask is if he unscrews it when its building pressure we need to see if its air pressure that escapes OR actual oil.

So yeah, I had the thick o-ring toward the top of the cap and the thin o-ring at the middle groove. Really didn't like to seal well. I had to twist myself around pretty good to get a swift kick to my own butt... but I did it. lol

I haven't pull the cap while the engine's running, but did immediately after and the filter housing was full of oil.

Thumbs up on the not running the ski on the hose long... only ran it for just a few minutes each time and only a couple times before letting it rest for the day. I haven't pull the battery and see if it comes up with codes. Figured if there wasn't one there now that wouldn't make a difference?

I'm tempted to buy a new rear OPS and see if the problem goes away. The pressure is high, but maybe it's the switch that is throwing it into limp mode.

Well, problem solved! I ordered both oil pressure sensors. Replaced the rear one first and the problem is gone (as suspected). It revs up past 4K with no warnings or lights or beeps. I don't know about the high oil pressure but I am going to go with it. The pressure guage I borrowed is pretty old so who knows how accurate the reading is.

On that note, my advice to the owner is going to be trade it in now if he is planning to. haha Everything I have worked on/serviced on it is fixed and running. No guarantees beyond that.

Good thread!

I also have a 04 GTX SC, and before disassemble pump, drive shaft and the SC for check and replace all bad parts, I had the warning lamp flashing above 5000rpm…
But since I was having a very good (bad) oil leak due the bearing seals (I Hope), I believe and guess it was a warning of “low pressure”.

I can´t way to assemble all parts again and go for a test and see if that light, and the leak, disappear.
