    1992 XP What happened?

Did you check the timing on the rotary valve? I'd definitely check that to rule it out. Hard to believe it's a compression issue when it just all of a sudden started running like crap.

    I'm back! Cue the popcorn...

Hey guys, I'm back! It's been a few years since that last posted, but I've got some updates for you. Here's my last thread where I cobbled together a jet ski hoping for the best, Check it out for a refresher, but here's the update: '97 GTX Build (Cutting corners, gambling on parts, etc.)...

    Can I salvage this piston?

I'm making progress, thanks to everyone who's chimed in, it's been very helpful. I took heed of Aknarrowback's tip, and while I was fresh out of silly putty, plumbers putty seems to have done the trick to fill in all those gouges: Here it is almost finished with the application process. I used...

'97 GTX Build (Cutting corners, gambling on parts, etc.) Pitchforks and popcorn welcome.

*Sigh* alright, I guess I ought to swap the cases, dag-burn-it. I may need to rename this thread though, not enough corner-cutting going on lately. I probably shouldn’t admit this either, but I was recently watching YouTube videos of jet skis sinking, and next thing I know I’m buying...

Good thought, going to try polishing up the seats when I redo the pop-off test. Others on PWCtoday and/or Greenhulk have talked about this "hiss" issue, and it makes me think it's not as dire of a deal, and maybe more like my WD-40 sucks. going to try thicker oil for it. @Miki, you've got one...

Advice noted y'all. Update on the carbs; I ended up using the old mikuni diaphrams, here's why: The chinese ones may have worked fine, but I wasn't impressed with the extra thickness of it. Where the bellow part is seems pretty thick comparatively, and it almost seems like the needle lever...

'97 GTX Build (Cutting corners, gambling on parts, etc.) Pitchforks and popcorn welcome.

Well, I opened the carbs up last night and they were pretty much spotless. I ended up using hardly any of my chinese carb gaskets, as the ones in there seemed in good condition, and of superior quality. As you can imagine, I fore-went the JIS screwdriver in favor of the "free" Harbor freight...

Thanks for coming along for the ride y’all. Chester, a 787 engine from SBT is like 900 bucks, which is a bit out of the “cheap” range on my economic scale. I can buy a running jet ski for a few hundred more around here this time of year, and save the hassle of yanking and installing an engine...

Hey guys, first things first, I'm loving all the info on this forum. You guys know a lot of stuff, and I've learned a ton in the last couple weeks. Here's the deal: I was browsing Craigslist last month, and I saw this cool looking boat jet ski combo thingy. The guy was selling it for $1500...

How to prevent water from spilling into crankcase (jug removal)...?

Thanks, that makes sense. Yeah there was just a smidge of sand in the bottom there. Turns out the drain line coming from the cylinders is completely clogged at the elbow where it dumps into the exhaust. Would that clogged drain line produce that kind of damage to the piston? Seems weird the...

How to prevent water from spilling into crankcase (jug removal)...?

Just to be clear, is that: 1. use the shop vac to suck the water out of the cylinders, or 2. use the shop vac to suck the water from the crankcase after you spill it in there? Or both, lol.

How to prevent water from spilling into crankcase (jug removal)...?

Hey guys, Quick question, when you're removing the cylinders from the engine, is there anything special to do to prevent water from spilling into the crankcase when you remove them? I'm working on a 787 and this just happened. Thankfully the bottom end is rubbish already, but in the future how...

    Can I salvage this piston?

AKnarrowback, here’s the problem: Too much horse power. I’d hit the throttle and the grips would literally shoot out of my hands and I would somersault backwards off the jet ski. Just looking to fix this excess horse power issue, but I think once all the piston cavities are filled in, and the...

    Can I salvage this piston?

Just what I thought, thanks. The rings have snapped in half as well, I'm thinking JB on that too.

Hey guys, Any Chance of salvaging this piston? I was thinking of filling in the missing metal with JB weld and then finishing it off with a light sanding...
