I got sucked into jet ski projects by buying a jet jon project, which was a 1998 GTX ltd 951 bottom and engine fiberglassed into a 14ft skiff. Knowing nothing... I learned not to buy something without checking compression or checking for a key. Over $1000 into the project, after rebuilding the jet pump... twice, rebuilding the carbs... twice, decking the boat... TWICE!, and much more pain and money, I finally got it running beautifully and just had minor things to work on like setting trim, rigging a console steering, etc. The second time i took it out after it ran correctly my bilge pumps pumped water into the boat instead of out. My boat flooded. The engine died. I barely got back with the trolling motor. And it never started again. Then my buddy and I worked on a pair of yamaha vxr's which were amazing projects. Mine had a stripped bolt in the head, and became trashed after driving twice. His turned out great and he made probably $500+. Now I got rid of the remnants of everything else and picked up a beautiful 1996 gsx for $100, and as my luck would have it, I can't manage to title it. I have lost so much time and money in these projects, but at the same time I've learned more from them than anything else, I don't regret a second of it, and I plan to never stop. I love working on jet ski's however much they seem to hate me. Eventually something will work out!
