951 balance shaft empty

I was changing the balance shaft oil in my 98 951 and did not find any oil in it when I put the syringe in it to change it. Where might it have leaked to? I am going to fill it back up with 40 ml of oil. Is it possible I am not reaching all the way in to get it out and should I be concerned with overfilling it by adding in 40 ml?

I used to use a black zip tie to check the level. A friend of mine had a 951 and we had to add balance shaft fluid annually. I think maybe the crank seals allowed some oil to seep into the crank area.

Balance shaft seals could be going bad. Add oil and keep an eye on it.

Thx guys, filled it up and will watch the level this summer. Good thing I checked that.
