Here comes another winter project. My buddy bought this one brand new in 95 and then it went to a few other friends before landing at my place. So I'll give this one the "treatment" to get it back up and running and looking good. Did a little strip down today and got it ready for the Super Clean tomorrow. I'll hit it with the buffer to bring it back and shine again. I'm probably not stripping the decals, they're pretty decent, a few nicks in them here and there but still good original decals. On the fence on whether I'm going to change the trim out to black, half tempted to just leave it purple, get some purple turf and purple single gauge hood and a purple handlebar cover from my HX, I know no one like the purple, but this would be for the Mrs. to ride, and purple is my daughters favorite color. Perhaps she could grow into this, in 10 years. Not sure whats up with the engine, my buddy said it ingested water but from what I can see it looks clean, but I'll strip it down and give it a redo. If it needs a crank I'll get an OEM reman, and rebuild the engine so it's rock solid. Gonna have to search for some deals on this one. Let's get the restos rolling for the 2014 season. Stay tuned!

Awww yeah more winter restoration porn! I swear every 95 XP 720 has faded bottom gelcoat.

Yep, I'll be following your progress also. I once owned a 95XP 720, it was absolutely the most reliable low maintenance ski I ever owned.

Would you like a new nose badge for this resto. I just happen to have a couple. I bought them for my 96 xp but I ended up using the newer style.

Probably, cause I know once I remove this one it's not going to be the same color and I don't think I want to go through the whole wet sand scenario on this white again since I want to leave the decals. I have a NOS square Bombardier decal for the rear already in my inventory but I think I want to keep that for one of my 95 XP limiteds.

I will send it on over.

I could use one of those bombardier nose decals as well if you want to sell any more of them, I understand if you don't tho! Hard to find

Awesome bro... Your resto thread got me through winter one season! Subscribed!!!!! Hey jetskigoodies how many of those badges you got?

Glad you like the resto threads, anyone else is free to join in and start a resto thread or am I going at it alone this winter??

Gave it the Super Clean this afternoon. Not too bad, it doesn't seem to be as gray as my 96, but it's way better than it was for sure. I need to call in for the gas tank recall, although I have a new one in inventory already. I will say for some reason this one seems easier than my 96, probably because I have so much stuff ready to put on.

I'm getting the bug again to get another 95XP 717, it's really a great ski, when I had mine it seemed like the ideal balance of power and size, very controllable.

Got the mill torn down, not looking too good. Gonna have to get a crank, maybe OEM first overs for pistons, I'll have to see how they clean up. It's really a shame, it looked so clean in places, except where it counts. Did the old rope-a-dope-a to get the PTO off, wish my buddy didn't already pull the engine, it was a bear breaking that PTO loose with having to try and hold the engine from rotating. Snapped a few bolts in the case, damn stainless in aluminum. On each carb I had a screw that stripped so I have to deal with that crap too. Oh well just another day. Can't wait to get the parts to rebuild the engine.

Looked real promising since the MAG was minty clean

I knew when I saw the wrist pin rusty before I even popped the pin I was pretty much done for.

Wow that engine is pretty much done!!! I hope you got a good deal on that thing... But when your done it will be fresh. 95 xp is a great ski.

I noticed very little piston wash, also noticed grey fuel lines. hmmm........

Sorry guys I only have 2 of those nose badges and as soon as I said something a couple guys asked about them. They are now spoken for. After Dan there was only 1 and that went quick.

Hey racer does the vts work???

Got me, heck I don't know if the electronics are even good. The front e -box looks mint, the vts motor looks mint and the vts boot was updated at some point with the plastic clamps. I also have all the electronics and another mint complete working vts assembly from the 96 spx I bought. I did get a good deal on it, I got the worst 2 from my buddy, you got the best which was that 94 you stole the engine out of, lol. I'm really trying to work some magic with this one, I'm trying to stick to a tight budget, I kinda got a little lose with the 96 last season.

Well there is no green goo that I have seen yet, except for the pulse line nipple on the case. This one was last registered in 08, but my buddy thinks it may have been 06 when they last had it out, we have 2 year registration. As far as piston wash, I remembered my buddy asking me why so much oil would come from the spark plug holes every weekend. So I texted him this morning and he refreshed my memory about that, so the crank seals were already smoked then to top that off the oil injection cable was snapped at the pump arm. So I think it's safe to say it was over oiled, lol.
