My mate (who is not on this forum) has a 2000 XP limited, about 4 rides back he was mucking around a heap and took on a crap load of water causing a hydraulic lock.

We pulled the plugs out, tipped it on it's side to drain all of the water out and she fired up perfectly. On the next ride it ran perfectly for about 15 minutes then started to play up. Whilst on full throttle it dies for about a second then then picks back up for a while then dies again then pick back up. On anything but full throttle its fine.

When he brings it back in off the water and fires it up it seems to dump a heap of water as if it has picked it up from somewhere. Strange thing is he is not doing anything unusual to take on any more water than normal.

1 other thing, 2 rides back we went out for about 2 1/2 hours and it ran perfectly no issue at all even though we were pretty full on jumping wakes etc. only to have the problem return the very next day.

Any advise on this conundrum would be appreciated.

a worn carbon ring on the drive shaft would allow it to suck air into the pump which would affect performance and also allow water to leak into the hull.

Basically after riding for a bit it and you excelerate you can feel it laging almost as if is running out of fuel/power at full throttle, take it out of the water and tip it up and a heap of water comes out of the exhaust. Not sure if we were to pull the plugs out if we would see any water etc.

Check the water regulator and make sure it is working correctly. It could also be waterjacket in the upper pipe cracked.

We are going over it this weekend, quick question, how do we check the water jacket in the upper pipe?

Its not very common...the only way i can think of is either block off all the cooling lines and pressurize or take the pipe off and block front, then pressurize. Bet its the regulator....
