I inherited a 97 XP that had been partially sank and had water in the block for about 6 weeks. I talked to one mechanic that said if it sat up for that long full of water that the motor was done. I just pulled the engine and broke it down and the crankcase was indeed full of water. I thoroughly cleaned the block and drained and I can't find any rust on anything in the crank. Does anyone think it might be possible to relube and reassemble everything and it would run without it having to be rebuilt?

Usually, if there was water in the engine that long, it has caused corrosion on the crank and bearings. If it was salt water I'm sure it is corroded. You could try it, but if the bearings are toast it won't last long. Check the crank out for corrosion, and if it spins over with no friction it just might be ok. If your luck is that good, I'd buy a lottery ticket if I was you...
