Water in cylinder/ Starter question

Hi -
I bought a 2001 GTS with a 718cc silver engine for the hull but the engine seems to be OK so I try to fix it. The cynliders was full of water. I crank the engine with the plugs out to get the water out. I crank it with low duty cycle, crank for 5-10 seconds and wait for 2-3 minutes, the starter seem very cool. I spayed WD40 into the plug hole every few crank cycles. I put a leaf blower on to the plug hole creating some pressure and lots of water coming out at the pump area some where!! is this normal or OK?
Anyway, I think the water is out of the engine, no water droplet flying out of the hole anymore. I put the plugs back and the starter could not turn the engine. I have a good battery connect directly to the starter bypassing the starter relay and it still can't crank. I think the starter may be bad but want to make sure before pulling it out. Is there a other way you can tell if the starter is bad? I saw some posts saying you can pull the starter with a 13mm long extention but is it possible for this particular engine? Also, how long can I leave the egine like this before the croision kill it completely?
Thanks for all the help.

you can try to tap the stater with a hammer see if that dose it trick or you can turn the shaft see if the motor is still good with the plugs out of it will make it turn easyer , if it turns freeley then replace the starter

i think the damage is done already, with the plugs out, the starter turns it over, and cannot with plugs in, i believe its partially locking up,
on a good well lubed engine with bearings good, you should be able to remove the spark plugs, and with very little effort, grab pto with 1 hand and spin free, like no effort almost, and if you cant do that, its probably too late, -- hey, you bought it for the hull anyways ??? right ???

If it has been sitting with water the crank is done. You can try but once it is running it will take the cases with it when it goes.

yep depending how long the water been inside the motor , but anyway he just bought it for the hull like he said u can sell it to someone to use as a core

I can turn the engine by hand very easily with the plugs out with out any drags. Only with the plugs in, it is very hard.

If hard to crank with plugs in,...it points to a bad battery or a bad starter...start there first, then maybe other electrical things later

sounds like your engine is not dmaged as far as we know by now your net step is to put in a new battery or charge your old battery if that dose not do trick then like seadoo buddy said its more likely the starter before you change it tap it with a hammer a few times while having someone trying to start it,

Thanks for the info. I was able to get the engine to run on starter fluid but will not stay running. It makes a big difference when I bolt the battery directly to the ski instead of using jumper cable. Next I need to clean out the carb. On this engine, can you remove the carb by itself or you need to take the valve body out together? How much starter fluid I use before damaging the engine? Thank you.

I was able to get the engine running and idling from the gas tank. There is alot of smoke coming out ofthe engine. Does this mean something bad or it is ok?
Also there was no water connection inside the engine compartment so I only run it about 20 seconds each time. Is the water hose connection in the pump area outside of the jetski? Thanks for the info.

the smoke is likely from sitting...over time the rotary valve seals leak oil in the engine and it gets in the cylinders and makes it smoke alot...no big deal just let it run for a while then change plugs and u should be ok. ...... FYI dont use starter fluid on that engine to much it has no lube and it will ruin your engine

On your ski the water hose connects directly to the fitting on the rear of the ski.

Thank you. I was able to connect the garden hose and run the engine for few minutes. Im not close to a lake to make a run as recomended. If I only run with the hose for 5 minutes at a time, how much total running time do I need to to make sure the crank case is dry? Do I need to fog the engine? The engine rev up good, but after you let go of the throtle, it take 2-3 seconds for the speed to drop to idle, is this normal for this engine? Thanks
