Utopia 2002 with Optimax 250 is blowing power relays

Since changing my battery , the old one was flat when we arrived at slipway, I have been blowing power relays. Two so far, the boat has started and run fine. First time I couldn’t restart the engine on our return to the slipway. Second time not so lucky, the engine stopped while running slow and would not re start. Found relay very hot! Had to get towed in. Any ideas ??

Power relay? Post a picture, pointing at the part. That will be the easiest way for me to know what part we are talking about.

Are you talking about the relay on the motor next to the solenoid

Give a good inspection on the connector to the relay.

2005 Utopis keeps blowing relays and leaves me stranded
Since I changed out the connector, i have had no issues.

Hi, Sorry for the delay, have had house guests for the last 4 weeks ! The relay is fixed on a peg on the same side as the starter solenoid but lower down and plugs into a plastic base. The first time it blew I found one of the spade connectors burnt so it has experienced too much electrical load. The item in question is referred to as the main power relay in the mercury electrical diagram.
