Tear in exhaust hose, loss of power?

Took the 96 gti out today and noticed it had lost some pep. Mostly off the line (not cavitation), just slow up to rpm's and loss of top speed rpm of what seemed like maybe 1000-1500 rpm.

Found a 2" tear in my exhaust hose that is in between the exhaust cone and the muffler.

Could this be the culprit and can I get this hose at an auto parts store?

Yep... almost positive that's the issue. It changes the back pressure, and puts exhust fumes in the bilge, and that means less fresh air for the engine.

You may be able to find it at an industrial auto parts store... but not a national chain. If you go to a boat shop... they should have rubber exhaust hose.

I just replaced that hose on my 96GSX, I got it from a parts supply house KOI, its Gates Part no. 24032 Vulco 2" I.D. You can probably get it at NAPA, Car Quest etc. . I had to buy a min. of 1', around $10.00, your GTI will need about an 8" piece.

you can get it at napa, just take the old piece to the store and hand it to him to duplicate, its pricey ! so beware of sticker shock

Ok, got the hose at NAPA, $13. Put it on and took to the lake today. Still doing the same thing. Slight missing at WOT & seems like it's off 1k rpm.

You may want to check your plugs or replace them. That happened to me and I fouled plugs before I figured out the problem.
