Seadoo noob 2

New Member
I just bought a 96 seadoo spx the guy I bought it from said his boss gave it to him and he was the orginial owner (bought it new in 96 ) hes had it for a year and he's been running tcw3 oil in it for that year no idea what the orginal owner used I'm assuming the seadoo recommend if he bought it from the dealer , should I go back to the seadoo kind or leave it tcw3, thanks in advance for the input :)

You need to go to a API-TC rated oil. Run what tcw3 that is in it till its about empty and then switch it. When your tank is almost empty fill it up with the new oil. Then put a bowl or cup in the bottom of the hull. Now pull the big return line off from the rotary valve cavity that goes to the top of the oil tank. Then place it in the bowl or cup in the bottom of your hull. This will flush all the old oil out of the cavity. You will waste some of your new oil but, its about the cleanest way i've found to do it.

If you don't flush the old oil will it harm anything ?

Thats the million dollar question. Best thing to do is to get some of the oil out of it and put it in a cup. Then put the same amount of new your new oil in the same cup and let it sit for about a week to see if it gels up or does anything crazy.

Since the ski is new to you, you should do a complete oil service. Which would include, draining the old oil, replacing the oil filter, installing new oil injector lines, adding new oil, and bleeding the system.

You've got either a 587 or a 717 and the oil pump is below the carbs., do yourself a favor and go ahead and remove the carbs., it will save time and aggravation. You don't need to disconnect the cables, just the pulse line and lay them in the hull. You can use either mineral or synthetic blend oil just be sure it's rated API-TC.

I'm not going to go through all the details, if you need help just post back.

Yep... what Lou said. Drain it out, change the filter, bleed the system, and inspect everything

What color are your fuel lines, black or gray. If they are gray you need to replace them as part of your project, they rot from the inside out.

thanks everyone, the fuel lines have been replaced, also loudoo when you say install new oil injector lines, what do you mean, im new to the pwc thing and also not a real good mechanic

The injector lines run from the oil pump to the two nipples on the intake manifold, get a couple of feet of 3/32" tygon fuel line and replace the original lines, use cable ties for clamps. You can usually find the tygon fuel line at ACE Hardware.
