I have had a preliminary PM answered by Doc. on the issue, but I decided to post this particular question for all.

I am doing a top end on my son's 96 GTX. When the PTO cylinder let go it peppered the head on that side. I had a mechanic at one of the local shops clean it up for me. I am not sure how it happened but the LEDGE on that cylinder is not as nearly pronounced as on the other cylinder. I took the head to a local Seadoo dealer and the master mechanic there looked at it and said it would be fine for a recreational machine but that he would probably not use it on a racing machine.

QUESTIONS???

With the above head condition can I possibly adjust the SQUISH AREA properly?

Do I need to replace the head to be sure all is OK??

:banghead:

Normally when I fix a head... I just gind the sharp edges off the pimples. BUT... I don't reform the dome trying to get out all the imperfections. (that's not possible)

If possible, please post a pic. If the guy went overboard... the head may not be usable. Without the squash band... the piston will overheat, even though, the test will show a large gap.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know how to post a picture on this forum. If there are instructions available please direct me to it or if you have an email that you would like to share with me I can send you pictures.

In photobucket... just copy and paste the bottom "img" tag.

OK... that head is pretty much how I would do it.

Just measure the gap on the good side, and go from there.
