I've spent over a year trying new oils, from full synthetic to Mercury brands, changed spark-plugs, head heat sensors, oil pump, etc etc etc and finally came to a really simple solution. The stop button/ kill switch (CPI 5000) on the boat was broken and grounded so the engine wouldn't start if it were plugged in. I would use the key to turn off the engine. I'm not a mechanic, but I assume that that button turns off the pump so that the engine clears out the unspent fuel and oil. The reason for this post is because this solution does not exist online anywhere and the previous posts.... which people are still looking for solutions for, are closed.

Happy Seadooing!
