While trying to test my 97 GSX, I tried to start it in the water, and it wouldn't start. So I took it home and then it started right up. So I hoked up the hose and it started right up with the hose attached. The problem that I encountered after that was it wouldn't respond to the kill button. So I pulled the lanyard off, and it still kept running. So I grabbed a rag and pulled the spark plug wires off and it still kept running, (I couldn't understand that for the life of me) and was finally able to kill the engine with the choke. While it was running, the exhaust pipes seperated at the top. Any ideas what can cause these symptoms.

Thanks,

Pete

High RPM's

Yes. The RPM shot up on their own, and it wouldn't come back down. It was definately something that I havent experienced before. Any idea what caused the exhaust bolts to come undone like the way they did. It was the bolt above the single nut on the exhaust coupler.

rpm running usually caused by air leak in fuel system. exhaust bolts rattle loose all the time. they should be checked every time you go riding..
