Rotary Valve Timing

Hey All,
I just put my ski back together after some trouble with water (long story). I was just wondering what are the symtons of a rotary valve not timed right. I timed it with the degree wheel to the shop manual specs and my ski runs great but I was just wondering....

they sell timing lights for a reason to help check spark bieng correct but cant check if rotary valve is set right other than checking performance of engine/ski... could pull rotary valve cover as its only 4 bolts....although that bottom one can be tricky...

I can appreciate the idea of helping members in the forum, but if you go back through this thread, you will see why you got the response you did. The member did use characters in the place of profane language. This is acceptable for the forum. It's a way of expressing themselves without the actual expletive in place.

The question was.... What are the symptoms of a rotary valve out of time?

It's pretty easy to identify because of the way the motor will or will not run. It will either backfire, or spit and sputter, blowing fuel into the flame arrestor. Using the degree wheel is pretty accurate, since there is a error of +/- 5*. Which means you can be one tooth off on either side and it'll still run fine.
