Rebuilding a XP 720 Motor

Hi guys,

So as some of you guys know from reading my other post, i had some drama this weekend with my ski. On the other hand i rode my other 720xp i just bought and it had a working vts. Man it was so fun trimming it up and jumping off the waves.... This makes me want to get mine working. Now, from the test i carried out following the steps for the repair manual, looks like its the vts module.

I when on ebay and came across this after market Vts unit. Anyone came across this and used it? is it any good? Seller wants $90 for it.

I figured i'd rather buy $90 for a new unit than pay $90 for a second hand one. Only thing i'm not sure if they are reliable and work well.

Here are some pics of my new xp:)

Hey,
Nice addition. You should already have pump extension on the 95 XP.

As for the trim fix. That's usually the solution.

Took the ski for a short run yesterday arvo and noticed the plugs where white. I've talked about it on the factory exhaust thread if you guys can have a look there and help so all the info about that stays on that post.

One the other hand i'm also having starter issues. When i press the starter i car here a slight grind noise and the starter turning but not the motor. Press a few times then the motor turned and we went for another blast. Came back turned it off and the same problem happened.
This time i went back home,It was doing the same thing so i tapped gently with a hammer on a bolt on the flywheel housing and again the engine started. So i quickly flushed it and turned if off.

So what could be causing this? Do these have a bendix drive behind the flywheel or is the problem on my starter?
thx

If the plugs are white then you are running lean

If tapping it with a hammer let the bendix gear come free again pull the front cover off and check it out.

You will need a flywheel puller to get it out of the way to get at the bendix

720 bendix is on the starter replace or rebuild the starter no need to pull the front cover

I had look through the drawings, 1995hx is correct
lucky for you no need to try to pull the flywheel, thats no fun at all with old motors

Some pics of when i was fixing my starter at work. Note the magnet than broke off. glued it back in and seems to work fine.

The terminal was very loose, the little plastic bracket had broken off. Came up with a solution:)

Looks like you are down sizing a bit, first the 2 Kawa and now these 2.

How is that inflatable boat running?
