It sounds like you might have cavitation. If you were in your car does it feel like the clutch or transmission is slipping. There are a couple of things that can cause this. Check the wear ring, the clearance between the wear ring and the impeller should be no more than .040 inch, that's about 1mm, you can check it with a feeler gauge. Also check for missing pieces of the wear ring. It could also be caused from a worn carbon seal.
I put a R&D intake grate on my XP, honestly I can't tell much difference, but I don't ride in a lot of chop.

P.S. Have you seen Waldo (Crisso), there have been reports that he may have left Oz, he's either driving a Teal V-Dub bus or possibly a yellow Hummer with a Vandelay Industries logo on the doors. If you see him let us know. He's my lost cousin.
