Rebuilding a XP 720 Motor

Guy,

It sounds like you might have cavitation. If you were in your car does it feel like the clutch or transmission is slipping. There are a couple of things that can cause this. Check the wear ring, the clearance between the wear ring and the impeller should be no more than .040 inch, that's about 1mm, you can check it with a feeler gauge. Also check for missing pieces of the wear ring. It could also be caused from a worn carbon seal.

I put a R&D intake grate on my XP, honestly I can't tell much difference, but I don't ride in a lot of chop.

Lou

P.S. Have you seen Waldo (Crisso), there have been reports that he may have left Oz, he's either driving a Teal V-Dub bus or possibly a yellow Hummer with a Vandelay Industries logo on the doors. If you see him let us know. He's my lost cousin.
:rofl::hurray::rofl:

Ive talked to the Mec at seadoo and he say's the wear ring is fine and that something about mine doesn't use carbeon seal but bearings and thats fine too. because he put it all back together he says that its the prop. Also said you can't buy them anymore and it needs to be welded up and machined down and that $450. Plus i also need to get the carbs rebuilt $300. Wow, expensive hobby!!! I gues after those it should be all good:)

Back saving to save again:p

Now you're learning what BOAT means, Break Out Another Thousand.

You're paying about twice what you should to get the carbs. overhauled. The rebuild kits are about $35.00 ea. and maybe at the most two hours labor. So it should be around $150.00 to 200.00 max. and that's having Dr Honda do them, he's the best. Of course that's over here in the states.

Impellers are available, I would go ahead and get either a skat track or a solas, you'll get a little extra performance, for less money than your mechanic has quoted, you can do this yourself, it's an easy job. I personally wouldn't have the one you have rebuilt, it will never be in proper balance. I don't know if they are still on sale by around Christmas you could buy a solas impeller for $187.00, you might want to check their web site.

Ok so from the Australian Link you gave me its $335 for the solas prop. $116 for hydroturf which is about the same price if i bought it from the us and got it shipped:)

I can't seem to find any impeller under around $250 and then when i include postage its gonna be another $70-100.

Thats the cheapest i found, not sure if they will post tho!!

Hey guys,

I need some help regarding the prop. I was told adn understand from you above post that i should get the Solas SD-CD 14/22 but also i looked at the skat-trak. I see from this chart http://www.skat-trak.com/magnum.html , that the recommended pitch is different to the solas one.

What would you guys recommend. Plz give me some advise as i have no idea what to get and i don't want to order the wrong part from the US for nothing.
Thx

I saw your post and haven't replied because I don't know. Dr Honda should be able to give you the advice you need, try PM'ing him.

I talked to Dr Honda and he said if i'm gonna do some towing i should get the Skat-Trak 16-21 "Swirl" impeller. Anyone agree?
Just trying to get as much feedback to help me get the right prop:)

If Dr Honda said it, it's true, he's one of the most knowledgeable guys on this forum.

Cool, Ok well i'll look into getting one, I hope i didn't offend him when i ask him "how do you know?" lol
Its just i don't want to make a mistake and be 200%sure before wasting the money as you guys know the Aussie rebuilt wasn't cheap. I did explain:)
Thx

Hi Guys,

Not much has happened as i'm still waiting to get my newish prop from the states. With the help of Dr Honda i went with a 1996 Sea Doo XP 787 Aftermarket, Skat-Trak Swirl Prop 16-21. Once its here i'll be getting the carbs rebuilt, install a new fuel float, install a pee tell tale and i just spotted this on a local site here. What do you guys think? would that be better for me?

Just a question. I haven't seen in the thread if you bought a pto/impeller removal tool. It would be helpful if you had one especially if you need to change out your impeller. Do you have one or know a friend that has one? Also if you are changing the impeller I would change out your wear ring as well, if your impeller is damaged I'm sure your wear ring is bad as well, even if not since your taking it out it would be a great time to change it out, you will regret ir if you assemble it and you find that you should have replaced it. There are how to threads on how to do it on this site. Well good luck

Thx for the tip, No i don't have the tool. But my seadoo mechanic does hehehe. Yeah its all gonna get done by a guy thats got a few years experience. Thx for the tip about the wear ring, i'll make sure to get that done too:) Anything else i should look into?
Thx

Got my intake grate 2day, can't wait for the prop:) Was told its worth to have but not really sure why?? Thick it should stick more to the surface? Any shared knowledge would be appreciated:)

the "scoops" on that grate will keep the pump loaded up in choppy water, giving more speed in rough conditions than the OEM piece. you'll find that even a slight chop will get an x4 hull bouncing
