So Here's the deal,

I took the speedster up to the lake for the first time this weekend and it ran half an hour in total running time. Then the one engine died and wouldn't start again. I checked it for spark, fuel, and compression ( with my thumb) and it seemed o.k.. Sooo, I brought it into a shop to see what they could find and they found that the rave valve is screwed and that it dug up the housing and area around the crank case. The mecanic also said that there was air bubles in the oil line.
Now what do you guys think caused the screw up, and is it gonna happen again if I just fix it. The boat is in at this shop close to the lake and I had to come home and work today so I didn't have time to run up to look my self at what the shop had found. I haven't paid the guy who I'm buying it from, what is this fix worth part wise?

Need some input guys.

The RAVE valves require regular maintenance. It could be that one of the valves was getting to hot due to a failed gasket or o-ring. This can lead to what you have described if left unchecked for a while.

Decarbonize and clean the RAVES at least once a year. Pretty easy to dismantle and clean all while keeping the motor running at full potential.

the raves attach to the cylinders not the crank case... what do you mean it damaged the crank case? can you be more specific?

and by housing do you mean the rave valve cap/bellows/etc?

I can't be more specific yet... I took it to a shop and the mechanic told me the houding and crank case were scored from the damaged rave valve.
The shop is close to the lake not were I live. The mechanic left it apart so I can come look at it but I havent been up yet as I'm working and it's a hour and a half drive. I just wanted a shop to look at it as I haven't bought the boat yet and I can tell the owner what its up.

So you guys don't think oiling was a culprit of this, the reason I ask is would this damage of caused any other engine damage.
