Quick starter question

MY 00 GSX RFI, The starter spins but doesnt always engage with the flywheel. Is that the Bendex, and is that the only piece I need. and can i replace this with just removing the Exhaust pipe to get to the starter.

My 94 XP is doing that this spring as well. I was going to pull it out and take it apart and hopefully it's just corrosion I can clean off. I think I can get mine out using a long extension but we'll see.

It's either bound with corrosion... or the bendex is slipping.

I got mine off and it was corrosion, wire brushed it up and sprayed some wd-40 and worked it around and now it's working good. I was able to pull it off in place with a long extension but it was difficult getting it back on that way. Glad because my exhaust bolts are getting pretty crappy and I don't want to pull them apart anymore then I have to.

So I spent the last hour of my lunch break trying to get the starter off only 3 bolts but had to do 1/4 turns as theres no room! SO I Finally get it off and now it wont fit, Cant slide it out. SO I Guess now im going to have to take the whole exhaust pipe off now after work:banghead: Was plannig on taking them out after work
