Pump rebuild trouble

Rebuilt my 140mm pump, had dealer press bearings in and install my aftermarket wear ring. Can't torque the new swirl impeller down as I'm getting a gap variance of .005 to .032 at the blade tip in just a quarter turn of the impeller. Hoping it is a bad wear ring as it is not uniform in it's thickness where it bottoms into pump housing. Pretty bummed out, long weekend and all. Also tried the oem impeller, same gap. Could the plastic pump housing be this warped?

Yep... it's probably the housing. If the impeller actually fits... then put it together, and go run it.

Outlet side of housing is true, egg shape is only on wear ring side between the 2 bottom bolt holes. I can get the impeller in and torqued but then she will not spin. There were no gouges in the wear ring I cut-out and she spun fine, just had bearing slop so I wanted to start with a new wear ring to go with the new impeller and bearings. Maybe if I bolt it up it will true it.....

If you tighten the impeller and it jams... there is a chance that the washer on the end of the shaft is getting pinched.

Now I have the pump installed and it is binding on the blade tips when torqued down to 26 ft/lbs. Back it off and it spins free. I left the alingment shim that was there in place. Should I snug her up untill she still spins and wear the ring in by gradually torquing her up or do I have bigger problems.

Update

:hurray: got all the little kinks ironed out with lot's of Thanks for this forum. What a difference with the swirl impeller, had difficulty getting on plane with 3 aboard and especially in rough water before. Now the little Explorer with 2 200lbs adults 2 130lbs teens and another 180lbs on a tube gets up on plane, in rough water, just fine. Well worth the impeller change and the next pump rebuild will be more second nature. Thanks again and now I wonder how a 787 would perform, or maybe a Group K rec sleeper setup
