Proper mounting and location of battery on 2002 GTX DI?

Bought a used GTX DI recently in which the PO had installed a group 24 battery up front between the engine and fuel/oil tank area. Although he did a decent job of adding a mounting platform and securing the battery, the battery rubs aganst the pipe due to it’s size. I’d like to fix it right and reduce the risk of a battery leak or electrical fire if something comes loose while riding. Went to the seadoo oem parts places online and all show the battery mounted in the left rear behind the engine. This isn’t possible because the water box noise reduction box occupies this area. Additionally, I looked at several different parts sites, several years, and related models and all seem to show the same microfiche with the battery mounted in the rear. The cables seem to be routed and length seems to be correct for a front (of engine) mounting position (as well as space). Can any owners of this model ski verify location? also, any pics of the mounting pieces or hold down would be great. I’m looking to buy the parts (hopefully used) to bring this back to stock?

I bet that rusty piece of metal is a great conductor for the ground.

My guess is that the stock tray would mount under that black one that is added. Just because the diagram shows in next to tle electrical box doesn't mean that is where it actually mounts.

Yup, I was correct you can see it lives under that black plastic tray that was added.

You guys are right. Pulled the added in battery tray and you can see where the battery holder is moulded into the hull. Unfortunately the PO cut off the mounting studs to allow, attachment of a new hold down. Now I have to figure a way to secure it to the hull strong enough so it won’t break loose if riding in some rpugh waves.

I would sand the area really good and get some epoxy resin and a little Cabosil and glue down these nuts.

You can also try drilling holes in this studs and use an easy out to get them out. Use good bits like cobalt and a cutting fluid like Tap Magic. If that doesn’t work try the first suggestion

Thanks for everyones help! I built some aluminum brackets with a threaded holddown stud and bought the battery tray and holdown. Works great and should be as secure as the original design 176BA708-8F8B-48AC-AA8A-668DC8C718DA.jpeg
