Over last summer I bought a pre 93 SP from a guy on craigslist for $220. Has good compression, but has been sitting for a few years. Had a clean title, but seat is in pretty bad shape, decals are faded, and its missing the front storage bin.

This is the ski that started it all for me. You'll have to rebuild the carb (use Genuine Mikuni kit) and you will have to replace the pick-up hoses in the fuel baffle, the plugs, and the oil injection lines. Grease the driveshaft bearing. Also be sure to check/replace the strainer and O-ring in the fuel/water separator. If I were you, I'd pull off the venturi and check the pump oil. There is a rubber seal in that pump and it's old enough to buy beer. It's kind of a PITA to rebuild, so it's understandable if you don't (right away). Also, check the wear ring. If it's dinged up or otherwise out of spec, you'll have cavitation. These 587 motors are very forgiving and are known to last forever. I think I may still have a West Coast pipe for it somewhere that I'd sell pretty cheap once I get back state-side. Those old grey pipes were really restrictive.

Got it power washed down and have started to remove the decals, but i’m Not really sure where to get new SP ones. Haven’t found any on eBay. Also I plan to start wet sanding it down this weekend but any advise on how to get the yellow staining out of the foot wells.

If it's tannins, like from a lake or river where lots of leaves make the water a darkish color, you can remove that with muriatic acid. Wear those long kitchen gloves and goggles, as this is an actual acid. Be careful dripping it on anything metal, as it'll eat it. It won't react with stickers or plastic though. Just wipe it on, and then rinse it off after a few minutes. The stuff is pretty cheap, like $7/gal from home depot (in the chemical aisle).
If it's just a surface stain, you can try buffing it out. I've gotten stains out by rubbing it with a wet rag and baking soda. You will need to buff/polish the hull with an automotive or marine compound anyway, but I'd try the acid first. My boat was brown and the acid turned it white again.
As for stickers, google "seadoo decals" and you'll find numerous places that sell aftermarket decals. A few guys on here know where to get actual replicas, but I haven't had to go this route yet.

Im going to pick up a bottle of marine compound and some new buffing pads tonight so that I can start working on the hull. I have some muraic acid in my garage cause I have a pool so thanks for the advice. No really sure what to do about the rivets that held down the cold traction pads. On other threads I’ve seen that people just drill them out, but how do they patch the holes? The hood is also riveted into place, but i wanted to remove it as well so that I could paint it black. And then I’m having a hard time finding a diagram for all the water oil and fuel lines online. They weren’t all connected when I picked up the ski so I don’t know where they all go now.

Okay so today I made it to the store and picked up a few wool buffing pads, some Maguairs compound, a few sets of wet sandpaper, aircraft adhesive remover, and super clean. I removed the old truff pads tonight. I noticed the rear exhaust vents were lose and poped right out. I found a new front air intake grill on eBay and ordered it. I’m going to work on pealing the decals off tomorrow with my HF heat gun and try to get it sanded.4704F052-1AB2-433B-B3A0-9419DBD9209F.jpegB66BF2CB-B0B6-459D-801F-8CBDDF97BA93.jpeg

I found this hole in the side of the jet ski next to the jet pump. Not really sure what it is for. Is there suppose to be a hose here for water intake or what. Not totally sure.1E8D2D7C-13C0-4E22-A4E6-E6EDA0AADB00.jpeg

Mikidymac can he install the same drain plug like the one that’s use on 95 & 96 XPs? Can he order that type of drain plug and screw it on there

No. They require a much larger hole. You would have to pull the entire pump to drill it out and use a right angle drill.

So today I finished removing all of the decals off of the hull and go to work wet sanding it down to an even color. Spent about 2.5 hours by hand and I’ve done about half the hull. I also managed to get the front hood off. As you can see in the pictures there was a lot of color damage to the hull and the seat cover I think had also detterio to make the black and yellow paint looking stuff that was coating the sides of the hull. I plan to finish sanding it tomorrow and hopefully buff it to shine again if it doesn’t start raining. Unfortunately the garage is occupied and I can’t move the ski in thereto work or I’d be up all night working on it.

Like this. I think even Walmart has them.

Hey man that's looking really good, makes me want to strip the decals off my SP, but I don't want to spend the money on new decals

Yep, I used to use the one with the Ring that you can just flip up to remove. Was pretty quick and easy. That hull is looking better already. I believe that yellow in the footwells is from leafy water. The tannins leached out and stained the gelcoat. Try that muriatic acid for that, might take it out. Do this before you buff.

What grit of sandpaper do you wet sand with? I want to remove some dock scratches but I really am afraid of messing up the clarity of my gel coat

I start with 1,000 wet then 1,500 then 2,000. The 2,000 helps reduce the buffing time.

Maybe it was 600 now that you mention it.
I also leave my decals on though and am afraid of burning through them.

Honestly getting very tired of sanding. I am going to try the muraic acid on the foot wells to get ride of the yellow staining and then i hope to buff tonight. I am going out of country for the next 10 days so I will not be posting as much.
