Hey everyone bought my first sea doo yesterday and new to the forum nothing fancy dont even start at the moment just something to play on. I have a question about the starter solenoid. I see it has 5 prongs and only can get ahold of one that has 4 prong or i guess universal just was wondering if this would work? First seadoo ever bought and needs some work to her and narrowed it down to the solenoid I hope. My problem with it starter was stuck so far and no power at all when i hit the start button.

Ok I'll take a shot at helpin' ya, if I understand correctly your starter does not turn when the start switch is pushed. At least that is what I think you are describing.

There are many possible causes for this other than the starter. You have to examine the battery, start/stop switch, safety lanyard and safety switch, starter solenoid, plus all the wiring and their connections. Don't get discouraged it isn't that hard to do on a ski. Just take it one step at a time and soon you will know the problem. But don't stop once you find one problem finish troubleshooting the entire system as there are often two or more problems, especially on older skis.

First get yourself a copy of the wiring diagram for your ski. It will give you a road map of the system and a better understanding of how the components work with each other. Personally I start at the battery and begin working my way to the starter following the flow of the electricity and checking each component along the way. If I identify a bad component I then need to determine if the component is bad or are the connections and wiring faulty.

Since I do not have a 94 xp (mine are 95 xp and gtx), I am not familiar with the 5 prongs you have. Both mine have 4 connection points. Perhaps a pic will help.

Hopefully I have given you enough insight to get started on this weekend.

Oh welcome to the world of SeaDoos and the forum from another newbie here. And a little advise try not to get yourself hurt, I damn near did before I figured out the xp are crotch rockets.

And if I am too far off base with my suggestions someone will be along shortly to correct me.

On your solenoid the two top posts, one goes to the battery the other to the starter, the two terminals at the base of the solenoid goes to the start button. You must have an aftermarket solenoid I don't know what the 5th. post is for.

Can you post a picture of your solenoid?

Lou

Sounds like someone has put in a lawnmower solenoid. The extra lead is to feed the ignition directly on a "Points" system.

Ok so i pulled dumb a$$ and pulled the soleinoid on the old girl and took a crappy picture of it to remember what wire goes where and forgot to save it or deleted it and have no idea where some of the wires go. Found a soleinoid from a lawnmower and now she cranks over after tighening up the starter post. By anychance could someone take a picture and give me a idea where some wires went im thinking it could be my coil but not to sure if i placed all my grounds i have 5 grounds and not to sure if i wired everything right im sure im over thinking all this but before i go and buy a new coil id like to make sure im not waisting time and money know its cheap but every dollar counts.

So are you saying there is no spark at the plugs?????

Here is a pic of the inside of my 95 GTX. It is the only pic I have but should be similar to your XP.

Right on thank you very much gives me a better idea I think I have most of it right. Ours is abit diffrent but im sure I can work around it annd ya I can't get any spark to her you can tell the people who had it before me tried to fix and found a few holes in the wires from a test light. Not to sure what they all tried but hey for 800 bucks i thought can't go wrong and try to fix it.
