How do you install the rave valve on the front cylinder on a 96 GTX with 787 engine. The back cylinder is no problem but the exhaust seems to be in the road on the front cylinder. I am actually trying to put the engine back together and can't seem to get the rave valve back in. Exhaust pipe seems to be in the road. Need help quickly please.

did you take the rave apart or are you trying to install it as one piece...the rave has to be removed and put in one piece at a time

B1.

When I took them out I removed them as a whole unit, but at that time I had the exhaust out of the road. Now that I am trying to re-assemble them it appears that l have to put the rave valve in the engine and then screw the black cap on it as opposed to installing them already installed. Is that correct?

yes, as Brock said, the PTO rave can be installed as one piece, but the MAG rave but be installed one piece at a time.

that is correct you would not have been able to get them out if you wouldhave had the exhaust on ...just dissasemble it and put it in and put it back together

Thanks a bunch for being so responsive. I was concerned a little about tearing the bellows by screwing it on as the bellows has to rotate as you screw the black cap on.

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

i put the bellows on first, then screw the plastic cap on. about 80% of the time the bellows will pop into place over the plastic cap, it not unscrew and do it again, then getting the retaining spring on is a bit of an art in itself. if you put the bellows on the plastic cap first, it is difficult to get the botton of the bellows properly seated on the rave

I did almost the same thing with one major difference. I sprayed around the bellows with wd-40 then I put the black cap on with the bellows attached. I screwed it down until it was tight. I don't think I hurt the bellows any. I like your way better as it does not put as much stress on the bellows.

Thanks

The RAVE guillotine valve is easily cleaned with brake/carb spray cleaner and a wood stick. I know everyone has their different ways of doing things, but whenever you use a piece of metal to clean another piece of metal, always make sure the metal you are using to clean with, is of a softer type. The RAVE slide valve is made of aluminum stock. Use copper or brass to as your wire wheel. Don't use a Stainless wire. You will not only be removing the carbon build up, you'll be removing the aluminum metal of the slide and in a few years, it won't fit the grooves anymore. Just thought we'd add that info.
