Need help 1995 sea doo xp 717

Hey, I bought a 1995 xp. It’s got the 717 motor in it, finally got it running. But there is a lot of oil in the cylinders. It has been sitting for couple years. Was reading up that crank seals could probably be bad. Causing the oil to be in cylinders. I don’t know if it’s necessary that but looking to see what else it could be. Also read that I could eliminate the oil injection instead of tearing motor apart and just premix the gas. Was just curious on your thoughts. Would it hurt to do eliminate it for a little bit to test the machine or is it bad for the engine ? New to these machines looking for advice
Thanks

Hi,
The general consesus with the seasoned old timers is to leave the oil injection as it is superb and varries the oil depending on throttle, which mixing can't do.

Cranks seals i'm not sure of.

Good luck!

I would leave as is with h the oil injection for now, I also hw e a 95Xp that had sat around for a year or more before I got to looking at it. When I did the PTO cylinder was full of oil, after cranking the oil out the cylinder didn’t fill up again the rest of that summer. Each spring take the plugs out and ground the wires, crank it over to get any oil that’s leaked past, once you’ve been out for a good ride, you may be good for the rest of the season. Try with the plugs out again after riding, after it’s been sitting for a week or so. If it’s still spitting oil out then, you can try installing a shut off valve to the rotary valve cavity.

It is the inner crank seals leaking and you have to supply the rotary gear with oil so going to premix will not stop the issue.

Get the excess oil out and then get it running and see how long it takes to fill back up with oil. It might be minimal like Burt suggested adn last all summer with no issues.

Some people put a ball valve on the rotary feed line but if it gets bad enough eventually you will have to have then engine rebuilt.
