installing check valves in mikuni carb

what is the best way to install the round check valves discs from the fuel pump on the mikuni carb? i use a 2mm allen wrench ball but do you put the disc on the seats then try and push the rubber stopper thru or do you try and push that thru first on the disc then push it thru the body? also do use just use slow pressure to push them thru or should i try and spin the stopper white pushing it thru? the reason i ask is i have already did it one and bent the disc what caused alot of problems and the carbs to come off 3 times before i noticed in of the disc were damaged

I've read soapy water and wrap grommet end with dental floss and pull through pump body

Yep... what he said.

They sell a special tool, that pushes though it, and stretches the rivet. But... it's pricey. The string trick works the best.

Also... if you push it, and punch a hole in it... it's done.
