HX runs like garbage

95 HX 720 runs aweful. It will start in water and run up to about quarter throttle but wont rev any more past that point in or out of water. Has good compression, has good spark, carbs are clean and adjusted per shop manual specs, and fuel lines have been changed. I unplugged the rectifier to see if that made a difference but no change. All grounds appear to be good. It almost seems like its in a limp mode. Also wondering if the coil is no good. Please advise with your thoughts

Could be electrical... but I'm going to bet that you either have an air leak in the fuel feed (at the filter, or fuel select valve) or your pop-off is WAY too high. (or you have an aftermarket carb diaphragm)

When I took the carbs apart yesterday they looked to have never been apart before. All the paint was still on the screw heads. The fuel select has been cut out of the fuel system. It ran like this before the fuel lines where changed.

When you had them apart....

Did you notice if the diaphragm had a red nipple? Also, did you check the pop off?

Now... on the fuel pump side... were the check valves fully seated? (a little corrosion on the body with drop fuel pressure) OR... were the little rubber rivets hard, or punctured? If they leak... you don't build pressure either.

And finally... what did the internal filters look like?

Internal filters were clean. I figured it out and she runs mint now. The previous owner attempted to cut back the plug wires, and failed. There was crappy connection hidden in the boot
