Somehow the word dipstick just seems fitting.
Half way between the marks on the dipstick is the proper level. The 4tec motors don't really use much oil, "set it and forget it" for the most part on oil level between changes. Always a good idea to read the owners manual for oil procedures and they can be found for free online easily.

I have a 2011 GTI LTD 155. We put 60 hrs per year on the ski. It now has 275 hrs. I use Amsoil and K&N filters. I change at the end of the season. I have never had to add oil. So, it literally uses none.
