How could I be so stupid?

Well, I never thought I would be that guy saying I sucked a bunch of rocks through my newly rebuilt pump but thats me now. I should have known better then to rush to a new lake after work on Friday the 13th.

I was passing under a very low bridge and was just above idle when I heard it, I turned the motor off and got off on to a rock bar under the bridge. When I got to the other side I got all the rocks out of the intake and fired it up and at first I thought I was ok then it stalled. So I started it back up and it stalled again ugh.

This ski has never stalled, So I start it again and take off and instantly notice the cavitation. So I take it back to the launch and my new impeller and wear ring was wasted.

I already have the pump back off but my question is what else could I have damaged when this happened? The motor sounded strong on the way back but there was another noise that was out of the ordinary and I couldn't put my finger on where it was coming from.

Google earth is your friend

rebuild it, new wear ring, impeller and giver a go. You are probably alright. GL

Thanks Thump. Hope your right. I learned a lesson about doing research on a lake before going there thats for sure! If I would have just looked at the satellite image of the lake I would have saw that its looks like a 100 boats have wasted their props through that section and I was no exception.

Look at the discolored trail of crap coming out from under that bridge extending out into the lake, Thats all rocks and seaweed.

agree, don't assume the worst at this point
And whats the worst Spim? What else could I have messed up?

I just did exactly the same thing
Rebuitl my old 1989 Seadoo Si.. took it for a maiden voyage and trashed the impeller and wear ring...
Maybe the noise you are hearing is the same as mine, where the impeller is ruined, it is completely unbalanced, so vibrates the hell out of the ski ?

I didn't think about the unbalanced shaft after the impeller bent, that's probly what i was hearing. Damn stupeo, trashed it on the maiden voyage huh? Really sorry to hear that. I at least got 10-15 sucessful trips to the lake before trashing mine.

So I got the pump rebuilt and put it back on the water today. Its hooking up great. But right after I sucked the rocks into the pump the ski kept randomly shutting off which it had never done before and it did this 3 times while I was taking it back to the dock.

So today I start it up and idle out and it does the same thing, So I start it again and keep letting it warm up. Then I finally take off WOT and it seems to be running great. But then after blasting back and forth across the lake for a half hour I'm WOT and it just shuts down almost like I had pulled the lanyard but the dash lights were still lit up until the motor completely stopped.

So I go back and pull the seat off and take it back out going WOT and then backing off and it seemed fine until I was WOT coming back across and it did it again, Just shut off, No bogging, sputtering or anything. So I try to just push the start button instead of disconnecting the lanyard and I get one long beep. So I disconnect it and re connect it and it starts up fine and then shuts off again but this time I was at 1/2 throttle.

I know everyone is probably going to say DESS post and laynard but whatever is going on really seems to be directly related to the rocks being sucked into the pump. So, what could have happened that would cause random shut downs like this?

Did small rocks make it into the engine or something? I was idling when the rocks got sucked in so its not like there was a ton of water pressure.
