I have a 97 HX. Recently had new starter and carbs rebuilt. Compression is 145 in each cylinder. Ski will start and run but will not rev up. If you hold the back of the ski and feather the throttle it willl cleatr the water out and then rev up. You then can ride without issue untill the motor shuts off and then you have to go through the same process again. Its a pain if you are in open water as you got to swim to shallow water to get to run. Local shop has not come up with any answers......anyone have any ideas?

My first guess, and I do mean guess, is that you have a fuel delivery problem. Does your unit have the grey tempo fuel lines on it? Who rebuilt the carbs, did they know what they were doing?

Fuel lines have been replaced at some point. Carbs were rebuilt by an authorized sea-doo dealer in Omaha, Ne, very good shop for maint work. At this point they are even stumped at what may be causing this issue. Like in the post once it is cleared you can ride as long as you want and the machine runs good. It is only when you first start the machine

I want to be careful not to lead you down some path to nowhere thus the questions. Next question, Has anyone looked at the water regulator? As a thought if the engine is having to fight additional pressure in the exhaust system, then when it first starts it might not be able to overcome that. When you lift in out of the water, it mlight be clearing that additional water out of the system and then it will run OK until you shut it down and then the process starts all over again. Just kind of thinking out loud here. I am not sure you're unit has a water regulator valve.

does it start fine cold when in the water, or will it never start while in the water? sounds like it could be a rotary valve clearance issue.

oh i see so it will start and idle, but won't rev any higher? if thats the issue, try pulling the choke when you're trying to get it to come off idle, if it loads up and dies, its running rich, if it improves and it accelerates, its running lean.
