I actually had some time to hit the lake for 2 days with the family. We always go during the week as I can't stand packed beaches. A family arrived and their dad was coasting through the no wake zone to park on beach. Something I choose not to do as I use a rock bag. He was on a 2001 GTS that looked to be in okay shape. I see him hit the throttle and goose it all the way out of the water. He shut it down after it stopped. Even my Daughters couldn't help but laugh at what he did. So about 15 minutes later he drags the ski back to the water and tries to fire it up. No go. Just kept turning over. I hear his wife say I think you flooded it. So they start to argue. They had just purchased the ski the day before. So I head over to see if I could help. I asked him if he tried the choke and he said it didn't have one. I looked. And it did. He thought the choke cable was the hood latch. I asked him if he lake tested it and said no but the guy ran it from the hose and it purred like a kitten. I found out he payed 3600 for the ski and trailer. No title with the trailer. Here's where it gets brutal. This guy was told the ski was supercharged. So we pop the seat off and I ask him what he thought the supercharger was. He pointed to the head exhaust pipe. I honestly couldn't believe it. I told him everything he should have been told when he bought the ski. I showed him my yellow bottle of XPS Synth and told him to get his ski in for service soon. I also let him know when he needs to shut the motor down before beaching it. I felt super sorry for this guy and I know unfortunately there are more people out there that this happens to.So I showed him the right forearm throttle/right hand choke/left hand start button procedure. Got it Started after gifting him a set of BR8's. Sorry for the long story but I thought it was forum worthy. And please for the newbies, always do your homework. Enjoy your Sunday guys.
