Hello,
I'm checking out a 1996 GTI for a buddy tomorrow and have one for me already. It looks mint and well cared for with repair records available. What would be the lowest compression readings that would make you not buy this ? I won't be taking it on the water but will run it after checking the compression. He was told carbs cleaned and rebuilt and fuel lines were changed with receipts available. Mine has 140psi on both cylinders and runs great . He doesn't want to have to work on it right away. Thanks for any info and advice.

150 psi is perfect 120 is the minimum and due for a rebuild. Obviously the closer to 150 the healthier the engine.
