Instructions say to screw in to the same depth as plug, which is 19mm (3/4''). However, the only compression tester kits I see only specify 14mm thread. Am I to assume these will reach at least 19mm depth or should I get an adapter which specs list 19mm reach?

I'm looking at this one since it's the cheapest I've found.

So the extra volume which results from a shorter reach is insignificant to the PSI reading? If so, are implying that the reach specification is just to prevent possible damage?

It can change the numbers... but it's not going to be major. Maybe a few PSI. If you are worried about volume... then you would also need to take out the hose.

A lot of the guys here have the tool from Harbor Freight. They are inexpensive, and are known to be reliable. If you catch it on sale, and use a 20% coupon... you can get them for $10 to $15.
