There's a cheap 2000 GS about an hour away from me. Includes a single trailer. The guy that owns it just said, " My son was riding it, and it quit"..

I already looked at SBTs price for a new engine, just in case. But, are there any other inherent problems I should look for on this model?

Anyone want to take a guess at what the value of a running machine would be? It looks fairly clean, not all faded or anything. But, I don't want to spend money and time on it if it's not worth it.

Thanks in advance!

I bought my GTI like that, it ended up that the pump locked up due to lack of maintinace. Then they towed it in and filled the motor with water and let it sit, soooo i completly rebuilt the whole drivetrain and motor. It could be the samething, maybe its just the pump?

Im thinking it could be just about anything. The owner didn't seem burdened with an abundance of mechanical knowledge.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you end up spending to get it water ready?

Hey Mike, I haven't added up all my receipts, don't know if i want to :o but i completly rebuilt the boat. Im probally around 1500 to 1600 after i just had to buy a new carb. I did all the work myself, I wasn't planning on spending that kind of money on it but once i got in to it i was commited.

Could be anything, if the motor won't turn over, it's hard to say how deep you could end up into it. Mine ran and still ended up needing just about everything in the driveline replaced due to lack of maintenance. If you suspect the engine might be bad, you'll have to get it for next to nothing to from being totally underwater. Remember that the gs was the bottom barrel model, mostly used for rental fleets to compete with the yami xl700. The first ones didn't come with vts and only had a fuel gauge for instrumentation. I think the later ones eventually got the vts but still only had the trim gauge and fuel gauge.

Thanks for the input, guys. I ended up getting it really cheap. After I sell the boat trailer it came on it will be next to free.

It is really clean considering, a few minutes with some degreaser, and it looks really fresh. Inside looks clean too, like nobody has ever really messed with it.

Fortunately the drivetrain spins free, but one cylinder is obviously toast. I think they ran some Wally Mart outboard oil in it.. green goop :( I'm trying to decide whether to try and do just the top end, or just grab a whole lump from SBT and be on the water.

Going off of Strizzo's post, it is the bottom of the line for sure, no VTS, just a gas gauge, but those are luxuries compared to the ones in my signature!! LOL.. This is a bit of an upgrade!

My 'Doos are (will be) mostly for family/friends to enjoy the lake on, I'm not super concerned with a ton of performance.. A friend of mine has a 99 XP with the 919.. fun, but a little much for me, and absolutely for any of my idiot nephews for sure!!

Sounds like you got a good deal, and after a bit of refreshing it'll be a lot of fun for the whole family. I remember back when we had a 91 yami Vxr 650, being envious of the people with seadoos that had gas gauges and tachs... And were a lot faster lol
