Bad weekend on the water!
My 88 Spi, which alot of you have been following that I have been servicing, seized on me. Started out dying on the water while sister was operating, towed in. Believe corroded cables to be at fault. Rebuilt whole starting circuit, including battery, starter, cables, connectors, etc..., took about a week to do in my spare time. By the time I got it all installed, tried starting and just click, click, click.....tried turning driveshaft, stuck solid!
Then took my 92 XP out, started bogging down. Brought it in, seemed like carbs needed rebuild, or clogged filter? Next day installed new fuel filter to rule that out, tried cranking and would not? Figured battery was dead, swapped from my newly dead 88 with new battery, still would not crank. Tried turning drive shaft, would only rotate a minimal amount either way, hanging up on something.
I was pretty pissed to say the least, 2 doos dead in 2 days.
These worth swapping motors from SBT? Motors are about 500 bucks. Problem is, I dont know WHY they seized. Would not want to go through the trouble of installing new motors only to have it happen again. Mayb the XP carb was running lean, bogging down, which caused the trouble there? But the 88, I have no idea. Maybe it shut down on the water due to no lubrication from auto oil pump? I would probably pre mix if I were to do this again just to be sure.
What do you guys think?
