Beeper

After reading through numerous posts relevant to my 1995 XP it seems to me that it is different electrically from 1996 and up and maybe even differant than 1994 down.Am I correct? The reason I ask is that I get no beep when I attach the lanyard and I am not sure if I should or not.
I would like to test the beeper and don't really know how.Should I get an alarm for all 4 conditions that trigger a light on the multi - gauge? As it is the fuel gauge does not work(will fix it soon). What I'm really worried about is the temperature, not that that engine get hot now, but, you never know.Any help would be appriciated.

Do you have an 800 or 720 xp?

Do you have a security lanyard (with a chip) or is it just a rubber cap that pushes a button?

The easiest way to test the beeper is to take the lead off of the temp. sensor, and ground it on the engine. There should be a continuous beep.

If it's never been replaced... I can almost guaranty that it's dead. I haven't touched a 98 or earlier ski that the buzzer worked properly on. AND... if it does work... it will be intermittent.

Oh.... FYI... yes... you should get 2 beeps when you put the lanyard on. But, what Lou said is the fastest way to check. Put the lanyard on, and ground the temp wire. BUT... I bet if you put your ear up to the handle bar pad, and put the lanyard on... you will hear 2 faint clicks. That's the buzzer trying to make noise.

Mine work intermittently and when it doesn't I get those faint clicks. It's done at that point? Funny thing is that a couple smacks, directly on the beeper under the pad, always makes it work. Ever had any luck rebuilding one?

Those puppies are $70

You can get a replacement beeper at Radio Shack, around $10.00, I don't remember the part number, just take the old one with you.

Well, checked things out and no beeps by attaching the lanyard or grounding the temp sensor.I took the handlebar cover off, removed the beeper and it worked hooked straight to a battery. There s conflicting info on this forum as to whether I should get 2 beeps or not.The lanyard is just a piece of plastic so it doesn't seem like it has any kind of electronics built into it.The place I bought it from gave me a new lanyard with the machine and it will start with pushing in the lanyard button with your finger.I guess I will have to do some electrical testing, which I hate.I don't care about the 2 beeps, just the overhear beeper.
