Hi there Forum folks,

My name is Greg and I am in the Military, stationed in Hawaii. You would think that is a good thing, but, since I have a 2008 SEADOO Wake, 215hp, it is a pain in the arse. There are no SEADOO dealers on island, which means, there are no SEADOO certified mechanics either. Since SEADOO does not give out their diagnostic software to non certified mechanics, I have no way to diagnose even the simplest of problems.

So, here is a link, to a youtube video I made explaining my issue.

My Jetski Woes

The basic issue is, I have a short in my system, and an open circuit as a result. We replaced the buzzing relay (seen in the video), and a $10 fuse, and a $66 shipping price later, it did nothing to resolve the issue. We left the ski alone during lunch the other day, and out of the blue, it beeped twice. We got up and pressed start and varoom, it started and ran fine. Later, I pressed the VTS switch a few times, and boom, dead as a doornail.

The video shows a few things I have done to date. We used a multi meter on the leads from the VTS and starter buttons, and the seemed good. When we finally got the SBT diagnostic tool to load (VERY basic diag tool SBT offers), it showed a VTS open circuit error code, that I didn't get to write down before the tech reset it.

I would appreciate any help and would even send a cash reward!! I want my ski back :agree:

I watched the vid... and unfortunataly... unless I can put my hands on it... it would be hard to figure out.

BUT... one thing that comes to mind... the VTS boot can rip. When that happens on the older skis, the system sorts out, and causes all kinds of problems. I would try to disconnect the VTS servo back where it's mounted into the hull. There are 2 plugs. Pop them both apart, and then try putting the lanyard on. If it's disconnected, the MPEM should ignore it.

Try it out, and let us know what happens.

A couple other things to look at....

1) Check your TOPS switch.

2) Since the main power relay is doing strange things... I would almost point my finger at a bad lanyard post. The magnetic switch in the post, activates that relay. Since you said that you replaced the relay... the switch in the post could be going bad.

Thanks everyone, will give these a shot!

I agree with Dr Honda, unplug the lanyard post and see if the relay stops clicking. Does it only do the rapid clickin when the key is installed?
The ECU on top of the engine is what turns on the relay when the lanyard is installed. Disconnect the 2 harnesses from the ECU and see if there is any corrosion.

Good Luck, DAWG
