Adding a drop in horn to my Sea Doo. Thoughts? Anyone done this mod?

The definition of Water-resistant is - resisting though not entirely preventing the penetration of water.

The front of any water craft sees a TON of water.

Maybe if you could mount it off the side a bit it may not be so vulnerable to direct water.
The fact that it is a marine horn you would think it is good to go for water applications.

I once thought about doing exactly what you are suggesting, actually there's more reasons not to install a horn than to install one. Like Joe said it's practically impossible to find a horn that's waterproof at a reasonable cost. The horn you selected is pretty weak, I have one on my pontoon boat.

My suggestion is it's more trouble than it's worth, ride defensively and just get use to being pushed around by larger watercraft.

Attach a good quality whistle to your DESS lanyard, that's what I did. Also, these storm whistles are very loud:

I also have an old Attwood mouth-operated bellows safety horn that's been stowed in my various boat lockers for many years and still works like new:

Attwood-Bellow Signal Horn #2460-7

agree, a good whistle should do the trick, you could put it right on your life jacket within easy reach....
i've put in hundreds of hours, i've used my whistle once... got stuck on a sandbar just off the edge of the river, used it to get the attention of a boater heading bye...

why a horn anyway ?

That would be awesome to have those! LOL.... I want to add the horn more for when I am pulling my kids on their boards/tubes. A lot of idiots out there! I may just add some velcro to the side of the hull and to my gas air horn and keep that there. Wanted a custom install though.

We had a semi truck get scrapped about salvage yard. I pulled the chrome air horns and the air compressor and mounted them in my 27 ft Sea Ray. Needless to say they worked fantastic.

A reed horn like this with air compressor is about the only other way you'll get noticed, short of having one of those air can reed horns. The electric ones just won't do anything much more than a minor honk nobody will hear, in my experience, not sure why the USCG even counts them as safety equipment.

Thanks for bringing this up, one of my favorite websites ever!
