Just replaced the wear ring on my ski, took it out for a test run, everything went well for about 5 minutes then the engine started to get a miss, on the way back to the dock it started running worse and then would only top out at 3390 RPM's
at first I thought it was the carbs (I have repaced fuel lines and rebuilt carbs a couple of months ago) When at idle it would only idle around 800 RPM like it was running on one cylinder, trying to giver it throttle it would only go to 3390 exactly 3 different times, I did a compression test, 150 on both cylinders. Batt voltage not running was 12.57 did not get a chance to ck it running yet. Any Ideas as where to start. Thanks for any input

was the engine hot when you got to the dock..... if so did u hook up the lines on the pump when you put it back on

this one does not have the lines that you take off to remove the pump, I took the seat off and it did not appear hot, no temp warning Aat all. I also checked the rave valves to make sure they are not melted or stuck

I will ck spark on both plugs, I just thought it was odd that the RPM would go to exactly 3390 everytime. I was thinking electrical problem. but I will ck spark

Thanks Dr. I was thinking that might be it. I read a post from Lou that somewhat mentioned he had a problem like that but was not real specific. I will look at it tonight and report back. Thanks eveyone for the help, you guys are great

A quick and easy way to check if it's the voltage regulator is disconnect the red wire form the v. regulator. If the problem clears up it's the voltage regulator, the ski won't charge the battery with the red wire disconnected.

Thanks Lou, I wont be able to test it in the water until this weekend, I have two of these ski's so I can swap parts and ck it

you dont need to swap just hook it up to the hose and pull the wire and see if it clears up

Got a chance to check it last night, did a good inspection of everything first and found water in the rear electrical box, dried it out good and started it and got 13.19 volts with it running, what should it read, and it ran fine out of the water, idle was about 3000 rpm and both plugs firing

It should read +14v. at a fast idle, 3500-4000 rpm. You're probably O.K. It still doesn't mean that you don't have a bad voltage regulator. Did you disconnect the red wire?

Lou

I disconnected the red wire and I still get around 13.1 at any rpm, I took the one off my other GSX and still get the same readings
any suggestions
