96 xp key won't register no beeps

I have power to my gauages I have 12 volts at key I have resistance on my key when lynard is connected, I keep blowing my vts fuse that's it not sure if that has anything to do with had the ski out last year no problems, and once this year did fine went to take it out and like I said no two beeps, the vts fuse blows right away if I disconnect the vts plug fuse works fine

So if you disconnect the VTS the ski will start? If so the VTS box is shot. I'd be willing to bet the boot around the VTS rod on the outside back in by the pump is dry rotted and let water into the box.
 
Ski will not start with vts disconnected still no beeps, did the 5 quicks taps on ignition button was getting short beep with long beep not I think its two short soft beeps
 
with the key off press the start button 5 times, then try and connect the lanyard. What beeps do you get? Also the beeper could be shot.
 
The key is not working at all basically clean my post clean my keys those keys are not programmed keys are they I also read a little about that never saw xp model
 
A bad VTS can kill an MPEM. What is the sequence of beeps? In the service manual it will tell you a short beep and a long beep = X


So when you do the advanced you should get a long and short beep telling you you're in the adv. diag.

If you put the key on and press start and the ski starts all is good.


IF not do you get a long and a short beep or 2 short beeps 3 short beeps or 2 long beeps? Each one means something. IIRC a long and a short means the lanyard isn't programmed to that ski. You need to visit a dealer or buy a Candoo or a BUDS system to program at home. OR, send the front gray box to Minnetonka and have him program the key. If you google around you can snag a service manual, that will give you the advanced diag trouble shooting.
 
I have to soft shorts beeps I used to have one short one long, and ski will not start, so these keys can go bad? And does the vts system have anything to do with starting it if I disconnect ski should still go right
 
I did change my starting relay in the front grey box with the amp fuse thinking that was it but nothing still, and are you telling me that if my vts is bad it can kill my mpem

On a rare occasion, an MPEM can forget the key. Or the key could go bad. If the VTS is disconnected, it will not stop the ski from starting. But a bad VTS could kill the MPEM which then would keep it from starting. If you get two beeps, then you may be OK. Does it crank? Honestly, don't trust the beeper. They go bad ALL the time. They also can intermittently work. So, does it crank? It could just be a bad starter solenoid. You can test the plug going into the solenoid for 12VDC when you try to crank it. Exactly what is it doing?
 
Dosnt try I don't get any beeps with key I have to hit starter button 5 times now its a soft quick beep. The power comes on but its like my key doesn't register at all I cleaned it cleaned post and I have power at the connector that hooks to the ignition post for lynard. Its like my key dosnet exist

I guess I can take it to a dealer see if they program my keys if it works if no then I know its my mpem? Dude been on this now for 24 hours lol jetskied out
 
X is the problem that the subsequent beeps produce. What I don't get is, you changed the starter relay in the front box? The starter relay on a 96 XP is in the rear box. The lanyard post could be bad, could be wiring. That's why the beep sequence is important. But if you can get a key programmes for a ten spot t that's great.

If he can't connect to the ski, then you'll know that you have problems with the post or something else.

I change the starting relay in the front grey box with a 5 amp fuse, was in front box in front of gas tank only thing if front box with a single fuse, and its a single quick beepnow, at first it was a quick beep follow by long beep not just quick short beep
