Hey all,

New to to the forum here but certainly not to working on two-stokes but this problem with my 96 xp with 787 has me stumped. Last season running good, excellent actually, until magneto cup came loose to destroy stator. New stator, pickup coil tested good but rectifier no. Put in new rectifier as well: tightened mag rotor and reassembled. Now heres where the problem is. Ski now runs good on trailer and out of water but as soon as its in the water it runs pig rich and smokes heavily with no acceleration, just bogs down filled with gas. rebuilt carbs and still problem persists. Checked back at the stator mag end to double check work from last year and found everything tight and in order but burnt black dust on the brand new stator. I am thinkin it could be possibly something electrical when it comes into the water under load. I dont really know has anyone out there have similar problem or know of any possible suggestions to a solution. Thanks!

Just to eliminate the possibility check the compression, actually it's very typical for an engine with low compression to run fine on the trailer and badly under a load.

AHH forgot to mention, Lou, compression in both is in the 140's, certainly a possible symptom for low compression but it has just had a recently rebuilt SBT put in it and comp looks good. Thanks.
