Hello, my 96 xp gives the correct two beeps when installing lanyard, then blows the 5amp fuse on the mpem, it beeps like normal then nothing!! Any ideas?? This thing ran great last year and had started just fine this year!! The only thing i did in between was remove VTS motor to take apart and "rebuild" (motor works but i think module is bad) and after i put it all back in and attempted to operate VTS it just clicked and blew the 7.5 fuse, indicating a bad VTS module most likely. Here is where it gets confusing, after all of this VTS stuff i went to crank the ski over and it cranked for a bit and then just went dead...nothing......that leads me to where i am at now with the two beeps then nothing with a blown 5 amp mpem fuse. Any correlation with the vts stuff and this?? What should be my next step?? Thanks!!

Honestly it sounds like it's the MPEM. Try this, try disconnecting power to the VTS, there's a two conductor plug, with red and black wires, its right above the battery, unplug this connector and try again.

Thanks, I'll give that a try Lou!! The first two blown fuses were happening without a 7.5 amp fuse in the rear box, then i put one back in and it still did it......is not having the 7.5 amp vts fuse in there accomplishing the same thing as disconnecting the power to the vts??? just curious!!

HOT DIGGITY LOU!!! I went out and put yet another 5 amp fuse in the mpem and unplugged the connector you told me too and she beeps twice and cranks!!!!!! I didn't go so far as to try and start it because i was just too damn excited that it didn't just go dead on me again!! So, my next obvious question is, what does this mean and what should i do now, can i run it???? I'll tell you what, you guys on here are incredible....soooo much appreciate you all being willing to share what you know with us who don't know these little things!! Thanks again Lou!!

I just had a hunch, and got lucky, anyway I'm glad it worked. This means you've got a short in the VTS, if it were me I would just replace the unit. PM minnetonka4me or 99spxxx and see if they have a good used working VTS. With a little maintenance, mainly keeping the boot replaced to keep water out of the unit.

Yes, go ahead and run it, you should be good to go.
