So we went to start up the 96 xp and the starter didn't even fire, we thought it was seized so we removed it and it was fine/ clean. Put it back on and it only clicks in the little black watertight box in the rear. We checked every wire and fusees also, they were fine. The battery was tested and was fine also. is it a solenoid problem? That's what we think. It started fine before winter when we winterized the skis, quite puzzled on this one. Thanks fellas

When the starter was out, did you try to turn the engine by hand?

You can cross the stator using a screw drive.

What he said... sort of. BUT... I don't think he meant stator. I think he meant to say, jump the solenoid.

When you had the starter out... how did you test it?

Finally... I feel like a broken record on this one.... but did you check the battery yourself? I don't trust the machine, or the people running it at the local auto parts store.

Sorry I did not specify, we had the battery tested at the local seadoo shop where it was bought and it tested ok. I'm not sure we tested the starter correctly because when the starter was removed it seems like it lost all it's ground and would not even give the ski power when hooked up. Then we put it back and it got power to the dash lights. (fuel/ oil). when you mean jump the solenoid that's connecting the 2 terminals that are in that black box about 1 inch apart? We never had any solenoid issues with our skis. Which is why we are puzzled.
