Maybe I just missed it- Where did your stickers come from?

BTW- Looks AWESOME! All those hours have certainly paid off!

awesome work !!!

being as i've never been a fan of the shamu's original green, this is a 180 degree turn around.

Well Done !!!

Thanks for all the compliments! I really could not have done it without many of you. Just seeing your skis has held me to a higher level. I kept thinking as I built it "what would the forum guys think if I took this shortcut..." Anyway, I am proud of it and can't wait to put it on the water. Hopefully it will run like it looks and the painted hull will hold up.

As far as the decals go, it was one of the more challenging parts. Like Matt Braley did, I did not like my first registration numbers. And I had quite the time getting the other decals correct. But here is the information: All of them came off Ebay.

The GTX decals and the Seadoo on the glove box came from here- http://www.ebay.com/itm/321688830873 I emailed the seller and had him make me a smaller version of the GTX decal for the hood. Note that these came from Canada, but I got them in about a week. I had a misunderstanding on colors and numbers of decals with the seller, BUT HE MADE IT RIGHT. He went above and beyond to make me happy. Anyway, My decals are in gunmetal gray.

The big Seadoo on the rear are http://www.ebay.com/itm/370831002260? in Black. No problems here. Good quality

The reg numbers are from a seller called speedgrafx Style is F9 color black. No problems here. Good quality. CHEAP

The Bombardier sticker are: http://www.ebay.com/itm/11-Custom-B...f08be0&pid=100011&rk=3&rkt=10&sd=231495752662 I ordered them gray, but they came in to me black. So he make another set and got it right. The gray is a little too dark, so they are kind of ghost like.

Splash down! Put her into the lake today. She ran like a DREAM! Instant start. No sputtering, stuttering or cavitation!

Beautiful day at the lake. It was about 75 with a water temp of about 68! An amazing amount of pollen on the water though!

Got her up to 51.4 MPH. I think that is pretty good for a ski this big loaded with a cooler and some extra tools (just in case).

Thanks again to all that helped me out and gave me encouragement. It really paid off. :driving:

This is such a good thread, thanks brother! Can I ask... you said you painted the handlebar cover. Can I get some instructions on what you did? In particular the prep and type of paint ( I guess theres not much else, ha). Also, did you paint the stern handle too, or was it already black?

That thing looks awesome. Definitely one of the cleanest skis I've seen. Congrats on finishing it and getting it out on the water!

I've been excited about this thread since you first posted about getting the ski. This has been great to follow along and worth the wait for the final product! Great job!!

The mirrors, handlebar cover AND the pad were painted with Rustoleum Ultra cover semi-gloss black spray paint. It includes a primer and is for plastic as well as other surfaces. The mirrors were prepped with a quick wet sand with 600 grit wet/dry. They came out beautiful. The pad and cover were scrubbed well with scotchbrite and softscrub with bleach. The pad looks great. It was kind of sticky for about a day, but ended up drying tough. It seems to be flexible enough and it does not scratch off with my finger nail. The cover honestly came out the worst. It is kind of splotchy in some places. It was really a mess before I painted it. I don't thing I got it clean enough. I will eventually redo it. BTW, normally you have to remove the choke cable completely to remove the lower cover. I cut a small slot with some metal snips in the plastic to allow the cable to be removed. The plastic is really thick and strong there so it is still plenty strong. WAY easier than pulling the cable. The rear handle is the stock black. I just cleaned it up well and wiped it down with a 50/50 mix of mineral spirits and boiled linseed oil (see earlier in the thread). This is what I used on the reverse bucket. It still looks good after a couple of hours in the water.

Kind of early to really tell. We drug it up on the beach twice. There was some gravel and small shells. I was pretty careful pulling it up and there are no scratches from that. But then my son jumped up on the ski and rocked it around some on the rocks. So it does have some small scratches on the bottom. No marks from pulling up onto the bunks. That said, I think I will be spraying touch up periodically on the bottom. But that is easy and I think the sides that you see will be just fine. It is definitely not a hard as gelcote but I knew that going in. Still I think it's an easy way to change the color. I will update as we use it more.
