Gonna have a few questions here. Just picked this up yesterday (first ski) Please bear with me.
#1. Does the boot /seal carrier area look correct? The motor will not spin because everything from the motor to the last rubber boot you see exiting the hull are locked together. If I try to turn the pto by hand, everything tries to turn, including the entire protection hose.
Is there any type of rebuild kit that addresses all these seals /boots?

The bearing failed and seized to shaft potentially
You'll need to remove pump and probably have to move engine forward

Its been a while since I worked on XP

Thanks. That was what it felt like as well. I'll start teardown tomorrow and find out how bad it all is.
Another question about missing parts : how important is the group of parts under the seat shown here? I thought it was some type of air intake, but they are listed as a sound baffle. The ski has none of it inside

Your good with what you have under seat.
Once you get shaft out make sure it turns freely.
If you check compression it should be 150 iirc.

Go through carburetor and fuel selector and make sure to run api-tc oil not the blue twc 3
Its better to make sure to cover bases before blowing good motor

Thanks for the answers. I'll start tearing the driveline apart tomorrow. The previous owner said he stopped using it because of a leak in a seal behind the pto flywheel. I'm guessing that it is a seal riding the crank. If I need to replace, will I need to split the cases, or can it be done from outside?

Thanks Nick. I got the jet pump and driveshaft out today. Vts boot has been replaced with the updated style
Ocod was right, bearing was seized to the shaft. I got Evelyn apart and the motor spun with good compression.
But now the starter isn't working. I'm guessing the previous owner fried it trying to start it with the shaft seized.
But when I took it out, I only had to unhook the power cable. There was no ground, and I can't find whatever is supposed to Bolt to the ground ear on the starter.
Question? Would the starter still click if the power was hooked up, but no ground? Because it was clicking when the battery was in and I got the start button.

There is no ground wire for the starter. The negative cable from the battery should be hooked up where the starter mounts onto the motor. So yes the starter should be clicking.

Before you look into a new starter try and bench test that one. They are very cheap and relatively easy to rebuild and will save you wasting money on a non-oem starter

Thanks Nick. I tested the starter when it was out of the ski and still wasn't working. Ordered a rebuild kit for it. But the negative cable doesn't go to the starter ground, it's going to the plug wire grounding spot. It's this acceptable, or should I run it back to the starter when I reinstall?

^ That's how I had mine.

Glad things are coming along. I loved my 95 XP. Learned A lot.
You have come to best forum for help.

Interesting. I'll have to yield to someone else on which way it's supposed to be. My ski was an electrical mess when I got it so i cannot confirm that the previous owner had not moved the ground.

Wish I wasn't out of town at the moment so I could go take a look at my ski lol.
