787 has no accelleration no rpm above 2500 ?

Had my 97 GSX 787 out today for about a half hour cruise down the St Lawrence river. Slowed down to talk talk to a buddy. Got to about half throttle and started sputtering, let off the throttle no difference, then stalled. Checked the plug wires, intake grate (for seaweed), switched the fuel lever back and fourth from reserve. found nothing loose or leaking. Took about 7 tries and got it started but would only run 2400 rpm no matter where the throttle was. Sometimes it would bog down some and rarely it would spike to 2700-2800 rpm. So I managed to limp back to the dock without needing a tow. I am thinking I have a fuel blockage. Any advice on what most likely could be the problem or where to start. Carbs were both rebuilt 2 seasons ago with maybe 20 hours since done. Any advice would be appreciated.
 
yes, sadly I still have the factory grey lines. I would have thought that they would have been the problem if this would have been a progression in loss of rpm, but ski was running top speed with no hesitation 1 minute and the next barely staying running at 2400 rpm. Going to pull it out of the water and try to run it without a load to see if any difference and check the fuel/water seperator and small carb filters. Any other areas to check?
 
The carb. filters are probably plugged due to the grey fuel lines deteriorating.

Mine was fine one minute too, then nothing above 2200 rpm the next. hopefully they are the problem and you can get back on the water quickly and cheaply.

I took a shortcut and didn't totally disassemble my carbs. Just pulled the filters out, tomorrow will tell if it went my way or not.
 
:hurray:I atrongly suggest that you do not run your unit any longer with those lines on it. If the green goo has clogged the carbs you will not be delivering proper lube to the cylinders. The engine will blow!! Trust me on this one as I speak from a voice of experience. I also recommend cleaning the fuel filter, fuel selector valve, the carbs, and putting an in-line filter in. If you need help on any part of this there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum and the folks are more than willing to help you.:thumbsup:
 
You probably willl need to do a compression check to see if there is any damage to the engine. Hopefully not, but you need to check it.
