Hi Guys, Today had some drama with my rxt, After putting in 1 litre of oil into the ski I went for a ride and noticed that the previous top speed of 108kph was down to 92kph so I had lost 10% of my speed, the revs also werent going over 7200 and the last 1000 or so revs werent increasing my speed, The fuel consumption also seemed to increase, however the engine sounded fine and there were no obvious leaks / smells / rattles .... I thought the problem might be a blocked intake grate as this has reduced my speed before, So i pulled into a ramp and had a check under, there was nothing visible protruding or blocking it that I could see, Then when I went to ride off the exhaust warning light came on for a few seconds with 1544 error code briefly, Then when I went to accelerate off the ski would only go a few kph, no matter how high the revs that would increase to, so I had full throttle range but acceleration only to a few kms, when I would rev it past 5000 the engine etc sounded fine and you could hear it trying but the ski would go only a touch quicker, it felt like I was towing a 2 tonne anchor, or the impellor was slipping or something between the engine and the impellor was slipping / failing to interface etc, I have given it a few hour break and tried again but its still not going any quicker ?? Would limp home mode allow it to rev that high but not allow it to actually go quick ?? Any ideas or suggestions are most appreciated
cheers ash

You got something in the pump. Pull the pump and inspect it on your tailgate carefully. It doesn't take much and looking up under the watercraft into the pump tunnel is not a very good inspection you really can't see much that way.

Hi Red2blue, I bought a 1 litre of 10 - 40w oil and added it, I had noticed that when I was going full speed and then suddenly stopped that the oil light came on momentarily, and the ski lost revs for a few seconds and then started up fine again, So I figured that it needed a top up, did I do the wrong thing ??

Hi Micheal, thanks for the advise. is this what I need to do to check the pump ??

remove opas linkage bolts. remove steering linkage bolt. remove reverse bucket spring. Set all nuts and bolts aside. remove 4 steering nozzle bolts and washers. remove nozzle. disconnect the opas hose from the top of pump or the body...ie loosen worm clamp disconnect hose. remove 4 nuts and washers from pump mounting bolts.

carefully slide entire pump from bolts...at this same time you'll be removing the prop from the drive shaft. once free...support the drive shaft with...tin can or other soft block.

Place your prop removal tool into vice...place pump assembly onto the tool. remove three bolts from pump cone...tap on the cone with a rubber mallet. set cone aside. with big azz hex ...12mm I think...loosen counter clock wise...it's on tight. Once loose...pull pump off remaining prop on the removal tool.

Clean away.

Before you reassemble...fill cone with clean grease.

Thanks Guys, I dropped it into reverse and revved the shit out of it for a few seconds and it has cleared the pump and now is working well, cheers ash

Did you actually check the engine oil level? There is a dipstick specifically designed for checking the oil level to see if it needs any oil. The oil should come up to the middle of the bend in the stick, not below the bend and certainly not to the top of the bend you want it right in the middle of the bend in the stick (as per the owner's manual, if you read it).

Overfilling can be bad, and obviously letting it get low isn't a good thing either.

Regards.

ps. You really don't have to remove the impeller to inspect the pump unless you just want to totally disassemble everything for the heck of it... if there's anything stuck inside the pump, you'll be able to see and clear it simply by pulling the pump out and checking it.
