just bought the boat. can anyone please tell me how to check the oil in the engine and how to do maintenance on this engine. it is a 250hp mercury 2 stroke.
thank you in advance

It sounds like you have the optimax. There is no dipstick. The oil is mixed automatically with the gas. There is an oil tank in the engine compartment. I'm not familiar with the compartment of your boat, but on mine it sits to the left of the powerhead. Keep that tank full of oil (DFI oil to be safe) and you should be fine.

thank you very much for your reply. yes it is the optimax engine. so there in no oil to change? same oil mixes with fuel and lubricates the crank and bearings?

That is correct. You have to add oil as it is used by the engine. The engine automatically mixes it with the gas. I recommend you purchase a manual for the engine as it will explain the annual maintenance.

It's not too difficult. I changed the plugs in mine shortly after purchase. I recommend you do the same, as well as change the gear lube in the stator and drive housing. (unless you know for sure this has been done recently). Changing the fuel filter is a must as well. All is explained in the shop manual.
