Ok, so I am new to pwc, and just bought three of them. A 1993 gtx 576, 1997 gtx 800, and a 2003 gti. My questions is with the gti. Is it really supposed to be that doggy? I would not want to see it with three people on it if mine runs the way it should. When your stopped and punch it, it will go, but it is not at all a fast take off. It will stay at that monotone sound until about 30 and then you here what i can best describe as a 2 stroke coming up on pipe. It feels more responsive with the throttle, but it is not really picking up that much power or speed. Is this normal? the only thing i have to compare it to is the 97 and 93, which both of them feel a whole lot more powerful, and they both will outrun that gti like its sittin still. The gti has no out of the hole power, and no top speed. the wierd thing is what i described as a powerband. Could it be runnin a little rich and it takes it that long to clear out or is it a computer controlled thing? The reason i ask about the computer is because the 97 does the same thing as in takes off and after a bit, it has an obvious feel that there is now more power available. the 97 has enough power to impress you at all times, its just that "powerband" thing that I was curious about.

the gti is slow, no power, no performance. What should I look into?

The GTi has about 25 hp less than the GTx. But... it shouldn't feel "Boggy."

Is the engine reving, and it's just not going? If it is... then you have cavitation. You may need to service the pump, or driveshaft seal.

If it's not reving up... then carbs may need cleaned, the jet pump may be partly seized up, and it's not letting the engine spin up... or, the engine could be coming to the end of it's life. (check the compression)

If it's on of the fuel injected GTi's... there could be a bunch of issues.

Regardless... don't continue to run it until you figure out the problem.

Today I took the carb out and checked the filter internal and the external. They both had very little of anything in them. I started it with the garden hose and it revs up nice and quick (obviously there is no drag on the motor from the water) but it just sounds like a 2 stroke should. I did pull the plugs, they are both a chocolate color. While the plugs were out, I turned the prop shaft and it all turned smooth.

I do not know really how to explain how its power feels, it just seems very low on power I suppose. Like if your going along at 15 or 20 and crank the handlebars and punch it, it sends the front end under the water and it doesnt even rev up much...let alone pull you up out of the water very fast at all. I guess it could be from the lack of hp, but man oh man, it is a dog.

When I bought it, the guy did tell me it sucked a rock or something up. he replaced the prop, excuse my lack of knowing what the names are) but if you looking up the jet tube, there is the cone and then a swirled piece of plastic and then the prop. The swirled piece of plastic got chipped up closest to the prop. I compared the gap between the prop and the wear tube, and its pretty much the same on all of them, just a very small crack of light all the way around. Will that swirled thing make a huge difference?

Overall, if the ski is running like it should, is there a way to make it more enjoyable? right now it is the one that nobody really wants to ride because all you can do is go straight. Heck, it shoots water out the sides like it never comes up on plain. it does like 45 maybe, once you hold it wide open for aways and you feel it pep up eventually. i did notice though, if you hold it wide open for a ways on smooth water, it feels like a switch was thrown and the motor pitch gets higher and it runs a whole lot better. With that said, if I take off wide open and lets say catch some air or something, the motor pitch will go right up and it will take off. Think its the swirl?
